Video of the Week: Hippo Saves Babies

If this video doesn’t make you want to pack up and head out on safari immediately, I don’t know what will. This is the kind of footage that you would expect from a Disney movie; but lo and behold, nature surprises us once again. While out in the bush in Tanzania, a lucky group witnessed and caught on video one of the more unbelievable wildlife behaviors I’ve ever seen. During a migration across the Mara River, a wildebeest calf and a zebra foal both became stranded in the fast-flowing water. Luckily, a friendly hippo came to the rescue. Both times! Tom Yule, manager of the Grumeti Expeditions tour operating company, captured the rescues on video in October and we think it’s totally worth sharing for our safari aficionado friends. Check out the heroic hippo after the jump!
